As soon as I set foot at Capellagården, I immediately knew I was in the right place. It is a unique experience to share and live in a community of people interested in manual practices constantly in contact with nature and with active workshops accessible at all times. For those two years, I was able to delve into new textile practices and new knowledge about materials and their processing and sourcing. Being able to weave with yarns dyed from plants in the garden or to create a thread from the linen plants grown in the school are unique experiences that I will always carry with me.
The years in Sweden were fundamental for my current practice, for the sensitivity I developed towards issues related to craftsmanship, production, raw materials and sustainability
After Capella…
Back in Milan, I brought three looms with me from Sweden as I wanted to keep weaving as a professional and try to rework and spread the experiences I had in Capellagården. I continued my practice as a weaver, working mainly with paper yarn, a material I discovered at the end of my first year.
Together with two colleagues we have taken a studio where we can immerse ourselves in the world of weaving and textile culture called Dòte.
My advice to future textile students?
Take advantage of being in a context filled with stories, materials, scents, landscapes and lights that are different from your usual ones. Any small detail can become a great source of inspiration that can accompany you in your future practice.
