The training takes place at half speed, where distance studies with theory in combination with a number of physical collections provide knowledge, skills and competences in the management of culturally historically valuable garden facilities. The target group is primarily professionals in the horticulture industry as well as people with basic education in horticulture, who need skill development and specialization within the profession. As a student, you will gain in-depth knowledge of Swedish garden history, the history of garden plants and natural and cultural environmental protection. The theoretical content of the course is anchored in practical execution and physical studies on site in various types of garden facilities and green cultural environments. The aim of the course is for you as a student to develop skills in the gardener's craft methods, linked to the preservation of cultural heritage in green environments. The course also includes restoration and maintenance efforts within cultural and nature conservation in a larger landscape context and provides knowledge about inventorying cultural landscapes and historic garden environments.
At Capellagården, you also have the opportunity to gain an insight into the other craft courses at the school. Together with the courses Ecological and Creative Gardening, Furniture Carpentry, Textiles, Ceramics and Building Care, it forms an exciting meeting place where projects and ideas about cooperation are born. For over 30 years, Capellagården has run horticultural training courses and here there is a large network of contacts and experience to take advantage of.

Objectives of the training:
After completing the education, the student must have knowledge of:
- Swedish garden history, the history of garden plants and nature and cultural environment conservation.
- The gardener's craft methods on an in-depth level, linked to cultural heritage conservation and biodiversity in green environments.
- The importance of gardens, parks and the cultural landscape in the work to reach the national and global environmental goals.
- The values and ecosystem services of gardens, parks and cultural landscapes.
- Regulations and protection of the natural and cultural environment, linked to the management of green cultural environments.
- Historical plant assortment, cultural heritage plants and conservation work in clone archives and gene banks.
- Regulations, actors and labeling of plant material in cultural environmental protection.
- Restoration and reconstruction in a garden environment.
- Landscape ecology and plant knowledge.
After completing the education, the student must have the skills to:
- Independently practice the craft of the garden in culturally-historically valuable garden facilities.
- Responsible for planning and application of maintenance and restoration efforts in culturally-historically valuable garden facilities based on site-specific context, budget and available skills.
- Work in an executive or advisory role within the private and public sector linked to the development and preservation of culturally-historically valuable garden facilities.
Arrangement
Theoretical teaching and supervision takes place remotely through an educational platform. The students gather at Capellagården and on a few occasions elsewhere for lectures, study visits and practical sessions at a number of meetings. The students are taught by a large network of professionals in green cultural conservation and get to observe and perform specialized work steps outside in culturally historically valuable garden facilities. Guest teachers consist of professionals with pedagogical experience and special competence in education different themes and contribute to the in-depth nature of the course. Collaboration partners for study visits and teaching include: Solliden Castle, Öland's Himmelsberga Museum, Stensjö village, Krusenstiernska gården, the Church of Sweden, Tjolöholm Castle, Äskhults village, Fredriksdal Museums and Gardens, Sofiero Castle and Castle Gardens, Gyllenstiernska Krapperupsstiftelsen and others. The theoretical content is mainly added in the spring and winter and gathered into a number of seminar days, as adaptation for the target group of professionals in the horticulture industry. The physical meetings are distributed during the growing season, spring to autumn. To make it easier for working students, the teacher-led teaching takes place in blocks, in between the students can adapt their study schedule themselves.

Competence:
The course's target group is primarily professionals in the horticulture industry, as well as people with basic education in horticulture who need skills development. In addition to basic qualifications (high school diploma or equivalent), at least 6 months of professional experience in the horticulture industry or knowledge through training that is deemed equivalent is required. Examples of this are degrees/pass grades from one-year courses in horticulture through YH or Art and Culture training. This previous experience is necessary to be able to absorb the content of the course and implement it in professional life. The theoretical and practical content of the course is based on the students' previous professional experiences and assumes that they have basic knowledge and the habit of working with garden materials and tools. To prove eligibility, certificates from practice, work and studies are attached to the application. It is also possible to meet the eligibility requirements even if you lack the requested formal qualifications, in which case real competence is required which provides sufficient prior knowledge. The scoring in the selection is determined by the extent of previous experience in the subject field and is intended to benefit those who have the best opportunities to absorb the educational content and translate it into professional life.

As a student, you are responsible for your own travel and accommodation during the course's study sessions. It is a great advantage to have a driving license and access to a car, as the training sessions take place outside in various garden facilities. The training helps with housing suggestions and encourages the students to carpool solutions.

Form of education and fees
The training is a so-called Vocational college education approved by the Authority for Vocational Schools.
This form of education is free of charge. On the other hand, it is important that one takes account of costs in connection with travel and accommodation, as well as possible costs for certain materials
