"The course content gave me basic knowledge of textile materials and techniques, and the school environment itself became an at least as important part of the education. Living at the school gave me a very concentrated time in the workshops and the opportunity to really immerse myself in the craft. Important conversations often arose around the shared meals with teachers, guest teachers and the other students. Meetings that became the start of my professional network and several friends for life.
After Capella…
The year after Capellagården, I worked as an assistant to textile artist Pasi Välimaa. Through him I came into contact with Ing-Britt Sundin, who was then a skater at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern. I then continued as an apprentice with her for two years through the Academy of Crafts. After completing my apprenticeship, I freelanced as a patiner for theater costumes. Recurring clients are the Royal Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Örebro Länsteater and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, where I have been working for a year now in the paint shop in the costume department.
My advice to future students
To future textile students, I would like to recommend taking advantage of the network that the school provides and contact those you are inspired by. All meetings with students, teachers and guest lecturers can become the bridges to your future professional life.”
