Ceramics - Glazes*

Course leader: Anders Fredholm

Welcome to deepen your knowledge of glazes! During this course you will learn what glazes are made of and how they can change in terms of temperature, surface, color and texture. The course primarily deals with stoneware glazes, but many points also apply to earthenware temperatures. Based on the Glasyr course literature, we go through, among other things, the materials that form the glaze and what affects its appearance. We examine how to determine what causes glaze defects and how to correct them. We also go through workshop hygiene and talk about how to protect yourself against materials that can be harmful to our health and nature. The course is largely theoretical, but we also burn a test series during the course week. Take the opportunity to compare and be inspired by the course leader's 700 glaze samples that are fired in both reduction and oxidation.
