Chair braiding with paper string, 26–28 April 2024
This weekend course is aimed at those who have no previous experience of braiding with Danish paper cord. Together, we will go through the basics of the technique, give a small historical overview and guide you in the work with the braiding. The focus of the weekend will be going through the techniques of envelope braiding and double braiding. These two braids are the most common among the Scandinavian furniture classics, with examples such as Wegner's "Y-chair" and "CH25" or Carl Malmsten's "Lusse". We prefer that you as a participant bring a piece of furniture that you want to braid. Otherwise, you may test the techniques on any of the furniture or practice frames available at the school.
Course times:
Friday April 26, 18.00–21.00
Arrival, collection and start-up.
Dinner (19.00).
Saturday April 27, 10 a.m.–4 p.m
Review and own work.
Coffee, lunch and dinner.
Sunday April 28, 10 a.m.–2 p.m
Own work as well as shared review and cleaning.
Coffee and lunch.
Award:
The price for the course including lunch, dinners and coffee is SEK 3600 incl. VAT. Please advise if there are any allergies to consider. You need to arrange your own accommodation. Registration:
In connection with the registration, we want you as a participant to send in a picture of the piece of furniture you intend to re-braid.
We apply continuous admission. When a course has enough applicants to fill course and reserve places, we close the possibility to apply for the course. The selection for the course is based on your motivation in the application and the desire to have a spread in the group. We will provide feedback on an ongoing basis. That is, the time it takes to receive notification can vary. Notification is sent via email. Upon admission, information is given about payment and confirmation of course place. In case of non-payment, we offer the course place to the next person in line. You who apply must be 18 years old. If you need to withdraw your offer due to obstacles or illness, a refund will be made with 50% of the course fee.
Material:
The cost of paper string is included in the course fee. Participants who have their own furniture have priority for the course. The necessary tools are available to borrow.

About the course leaders:
Henrik and Sebastian are cabinetmakers who both graduated from Capellagården with a journeyman's certificate. Already during the training, they found an interest in braiding with paper string and are now working on finding new ways to use the technology. They both return as often as they can to Capellagården to hold courses for both young and old.
