Felt and shape

27 July – 2 August 2025

Course leader: Yvonne Habbe

Welcome to the course Felt and shape! During the course, you will learn how to felt the Swedish wool into three-dimensional shapes by hand and with simple tools. You will learn about different wool qualities from different sheep breeds and explore their respective characteristics. We try to mix different qualities to further refine the result. You work both with thin, fine qualities and increase the amount of wool to produce really strong felt. We calculate how much the material shrinks, construct templates based on this to build hollow shapes and immerse ourselves in the exploration of the relationship between the template and the finished result. Great importance is placed on the elasticity and malleability of the material. By shrinking, stretching and folding, we achieve felted objects of good and dimensionally stable quality. The technology opens up and inspires new expressions and volumes for both art objects and utility objects. Throughout, we endorse a curious approach to the material, technology and volumes.

The course fee is SEK 5,500
